Minutes Maureen R. O'Brien, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Theology and Director of Pastoral Ministry, Duquesne University, and Helen Blier, Ph.D., Researcher, Educator, Consultant, provided a workshop on Focus Groups in Qualitative Research: Presumptions and Strategies. Forty-three persons attended the workshop and, following the well-prepared and informative lead of the two presenters, discussed the issues of the researcher's assumptions regarding epistemology, especially the character and construction of knowledge; development of methodologies that resonate with one's epistemological presumptions; and choice of methods that allow effective gathering of data while avoiding potential obstacles. |
