Center for Interpretive and Qualitative Research (CIQR
-- "seeker")*
NEXT MEETING: Oct. 21 (Thurs.), 2004, 4:00-6:00PM, Room LAB 240, Rangos School of Health, Duquesne University.
Agenda: "Political Cartoons: A Borderline Example of Qualitative Research?"
With a CIQR Panel and Mr. Rob Rogers, Political Cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Rob Rogers is a nationally known political cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His cartoons also regularly appear in the New York Times and other publications. CIQR has asked him to comment on the dimensions of art and insight in his cartoons, for example, how he decides what will be the most effective cartoon for capturing a particular political event or topic. A panel of qualitative researchers from various departments at Duquesne will then respond with their ideas on the affinity (or lack of such) between political cartoons and formal qualitative research. The audience will be invited to join in with their reflections on the issue. The initial supposition on CIQR's part (not necessarily Mr. Rogers') is that creating political cartoons are at least a borderline example of qualitative research and that reflection upon that process can shed light on formal qualitative methods. |
