NEXT MEETING: April 21 (Thurs.), 2005, 4:00-5:30PM, Berger Gallery, 207 College Hall, Duquesne University.
Agenda: will present:
Abstract: During times of major social change, such as the transition
to a post-Apartheid South Africa, old identity verities are frequently
challenged and/or dislodged. Arguing that music can be read as text for
such identitary challenges, my presentation examines identitary discourse
among Afrikaners within post-Apartheid South Africa and also focuses on
the method and implications involved in my research on this topic. Dr. Laubscher adds:. Please read the attached paper. While I'll reference the specifics of the study, I'd like to focus on the research method and implications, and dialogue with members about using music as research text. If you read the paper beforehand, it'll make it much easier to do that as I'll be able to skip parts comfortably and make it more of a conversation than a presentation.
