Dr. JOHN BEVERELY, Chair and Professor of Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh presented his paper, “Testimonio and the Politics of Empire.” Professor Beverely’s paper/talk focused on the relation between witnessing, for example, Rigoberta Menchú’s testimonio on atrocities against indigenous people by government forces in Guatemala, and the constitution of multicultural societies. Around 30 people attended Professor Beverely’s presentation. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion that continued well past the official end of the session.
