.Dr. Ernesto Laclau, an internationally known leader in political theory, spoke to an audience of over a 100 on Thurs. night, Oct. 11 on "The Construction of Popular Identities", and conducted a symposium (25 attended) on Fri. morning, Oct. 12, concerning his paper, "The Politics of Rhetoric." The audience for both events was exuberant about the quality of Laclau's presentation and the high level of the discussion.

Thanks to the efforts of CIQR's Dr. Paul Richer (Psychology) and Duquesne's Public Relations' Office, we now have a brochure for CIQR; due to the efforts of CIQR's graduate assistant, Ms. Jennifer Glassbrenner (Psychology), we now have a CIQR web page, www.ciqr.duq.edu, and a ciqr e-mail address, ciqr@duq.edu. Thanks also to Ms. Jean Schutte (English) for setting up a reading group for Dr. Laclau's symposium paper.
